TOOTH CLEANING/ SCALING
This is a non-surgical procedure done to prevent onset of gum diseases. Here we remove the plaque and tartar not only on the surface of tooth but deep within too.
How is it done?
It is done by means of ultrasonic device which disrupts the plaque and tartar formed on the tooth thus removing them. Followed by, polishing of tooth using medicated paste.
Is it really beneficial?
Plaque and tartar which accumulate on the tooth surface impinge on the gums causing inflammation of gums, bad breath, and loosening the tooth ultimately. These can be prevented by tooth cleaning. Hence, maintaining the overall oral hygiene.
How long does it take?
It takes about a maximum of 20 to 30 minutes. The procedure time vary depending upon the clinical presence of tartar.
Does tooth cleaning remove enamel?
No, tooth cleaning does not remove enamel. This stems from the notion due to chipping of white stuff from teeth during procedure followed by sensitivity. This is actually chipping of tartar during cleaning which cause mild sensitivity which subsides in two days’ time.
Will my tooth loosen after tooth cleaning?
No, the tooth does not loosen after scaling. But in cases where the tooth is stabilized by the accumulation of tartar, on removal tooth may feel loose. This shows the progression of gum disease.
Will teeth cleaning make my teeth white?
Teeth cleaning only remove the plaque and tartar present on the tooth not change the tooth color. Tooth color can be enhanced by the whitening process.

Tooth polishing is done to make tooth surface smooth, shiny and to prevent sensitivity.
