DENTAL X-RAYS
ORTHOPANTOMOGRAM (OPG)
X-rays use radiation to take pictures of bones and other parts inside the body. An OPG is a panoramic X-ray of the upper and lower jaws, including all teeth. The OPG unit is specifically designed to rotate around the patient’s head during the scan. An OPG will take approximately 20 seconds. The imaging is also immediate hence no wait. This is a single x-ray in which complete oral health can be monitored.
An OPG can be used to look for
- Fractures
- Dislocated jaw
- Infection
- Dentition (teeth)
- Surgical planning
Advantages- Painless, fast and easy, no radiation is left in your body after the OPG is finished.
If pregnant OPG should not be taken.
RADIOVISIOGRAPHY
This technology is used as an alternative to X-ray radiography in dentistry. This reduces X-ray exposure by 80% than that of conventional X-rays. This is used in cases where a segment (3-4) of the tooth and surrounding structures needed to view in detail. The imaging is immediate hence no waiting time.
If a pregnant x-ray should not be taken.
